The formal study of critical thinking and logic is generally begun at the college level because of its complexity. While Excel Academy recognizes the significance of rigorous college-level Critical Thinking courses, we also maintain that "training the mind to think," as Einstein would have it, is a skill easily honed at far younger ages. As such, we regularly include a Critical Thinking Course for Young Learners in our Preschool and Kindergarten Program.
The results have been astounding. We've discovered that not only do our students enjoy the myriad critical thinking activities and games designed for them, they also apply those newfound skills when learning Phonics. From a more immediate recognition of phonics "word families" to the comfort with both blends and digraphs, our Critical Thinking youngsters have begun earlier to do that which we intend: they've begun to excel.
