While we’re flexible, in terms of both scheduling and the kind of study materials and resources we’ll provide, we are also consistent in our results. Time and time again, we have seen our students improve their SAT and ACT scores drastically, even after just a few sessions. With standardized tests returning as a vital component to college admissions, especially at the top universities (save for the UC’s), it is essential that students begin preparing early. For juniors, studying for the PSAT (similar to the SAT) allows them to become a National Merit Scholar, unlocking access to thousands of dollars of merit-based scholarships. For seniors, those final few SAT or ACT attempts could alter their final list of colleges. The simple truth is this: an excellent test score will make a significant impact on the students’ chances when it comes to college admissions.

We here at Excel Academy recognize and emphasize the importance of the SAT and ACT. We’ve assembled an elite team of mentors, who themselves have achieved 99% test scores, graduated from the best colleges in the nation, and will be able to help your student in both one-on-one and class-based learning environments. Perhaps your student wants to take an intensive Boot Camp with their friends and learn effective strategies for these standardized tests; perhaps they need individualized attention and want to work on a specific aspect of the tests, or simply need to boost their confidence and ease their nerves before test day. Whatever your students’ personalized needs might be, our expert tutors at Excel Academy are here to prepare your student for academic success.

FAQ

Some may take the SAT more than once (which you should), the next question is whether all colleges see all your scores or mainly the one you scored higher on. The answer is it depends. Some schools require you to send all scores and others only want your highest one. Make sure you check the requirements from the college.

Generally, you want at least a 1000 for any four-year college, at least a 1200 for higher tier schools, and at least a 1400 for an Ivy League. However, every school is different, and the best idea to figure out what a good SAT score is for the college of your dreams is to contact an Excel College Counselor and let them know your expectations, they can then let you know what will be expected.

The SAT and ACT are different in a few ways, but they both share the fact you will need to focus and you’ll still have to study, so best to pick one and commit. Both the SAT and ACT cover Reading, Writing (Grammar), and Math and are about 3 hours long. Here are the key differences:

  • The ACT has an additional Science section, which is similar to the science passages you get on the SAT, but it’s a whole section of them.
  • The ACT lets you use a calculator for the whole Math section, but the SAT only lets you use it for 1 of the 2 Math sections. BUT the ACT is way stricter about the tools you can use. For example, you can use a TI-89 on the SAT, but not on the ACT.
  • You get less time per question on the ACT.

Because the ACT has more quantitative-style questions (i.e. the Science section), we recommend you pick the ACT if that’s your strong suit.

Unfortunately No, the College Board has not made the SAT available online.

  • On average, we have 40+ students that score over 1450 on the SAT and 34 on the ACT every year.

  • We have more than 30 students with National Merit Semifinalist designations.

  • We have had students score a perfect 1600 (SAT) on their first attempt.

  • We had a student score a perfect 36 (ACT) in Winter 2017.

  • We had another 2 students score a perfect 36 (ACT) in February 2020.

  • We have had two Nevada Presidential Scholars in 2019 and 2020.

  • And finally, we have had a B. Duke Scholar Program Finalist (only one of 9 students) in 2020.
