Planning for College Begins Now

The sooner students makes a plan for college, the more likely it is they will succeed in university and beyond.

We work with students ages 13 - 17 to create a comprehensive plan for future success. Our program addresses every aspect considered by college admissions officers during the enrollment process.

Our goal is to make our students stand out from the rest by helping them to create a personal brand that can be used throughout their time in college, all while inspiring in them a passion they can explore both in college and throughout their lives.

Frequently asked questions

I know that we need help, but I'm not sure where to start.

The college application process is complex, requiring many steps that may be new for students and parents alike. We offer a wide range of college planning packages that start with students as young as eighth grade, while others start as late as their senior year. Ideally, we would like all students to receive the most guidance possible. During the initial consultation, parents' and students' needs will be discussed to assess the package that can provide your student the best chance for success. You can book a free 15 minute consultation on this page to get you started.

To which schools should I apply? How many?

Most schools require at least one essay as part of the Common Application, a 650-word essay commonly referred to as a Personal Statement. Some schools might further require supplemental essays ranging anywhere from 50 – 650 words; more competitive schools ask for several additional high quality essays. It is recommended that a student apply to at least five schools, although some students apply to as many as fifteen. Our junior-year program helps students begin the writing process by helping them draft several essays that can answer a variety of essay questions, allowing them to be one step ahead when college applications are released.

How much work will I need to do? How much help do I need?

Some families only want the bare minimum, providing only a guide of what needs to be done, and they’ll do the rest. Others want us to be involved in every part of the process, from assigning SAT dates and due dates for essay drafts, to arranging college visits and preparing students with their own ”brand.” We want students and families to not only feel confident when going into the college application season but also to have a better sense of what they want out of these exciting four years.

We need all the help we can get. What do you offer?

There are many people willing to help high school students complete their college applications, from parents to high school counselors. What we offer at Excel Academy goes beyond the mere completion of applications. The Excel Experience Initiative is an innovative program developed through years of experience in the field. The Initiative's aim is twofold: to help students cultivate their own brand, and to help them to express their experiences and hopes for the future with both confidence and enthusiasm. This new attitude comes through in their applications, helping them to stand out in a highly competitive field.

Who Should Hire a College Admissions Consultant?

Anyone who wants to have an edge in the college admissions process! The long answer is, of course, a bit more complex. For starters, hiring a college admissions consultant isn't exactly cheap. So, one of the first things you need to consider when deciding whether or not to hire an admissions consultant is your budget. Can you afford to hire one? While cost is probably the single biggest factor to consider, another important thing to take into account is the amount of time you have to devote to working with a college admissions consultant. While these consultants work hard to help you get where you want to be, it will require a significant investment of your own time and energy as well. You'll need to find the time to work with them on your essays, resume, interview prep, and much more.
